Rescue Me ID: 17-04-20-00171Dax (male)

Jack Russell Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Posted 4/20/17, and pictures taken on 4/17/17. Dax was found at a business on 4/14/17 with a lot of fleas. No owner has come forward, so he is up for adoption. He is very sweet and playful, rides extremely well in a vehicle, and appears to have been house trained with puppy pads, but I'm working on house training him by going outside. Anyone interested in adopting must be ok with continuing his house training. He is a little skittish when meeting new people at first, and then he is fine. He will bark for a short time when left inside when his person goes outside. He is still chewing on things, and likes to take off with shoes. He ... (Read More)will roll over to get belly rubs. He is ok on a leash, and will follow me wherever I walk. His breed appears to be Jack Russell Terrier mixed with Chihuahua. Dax is estimated to have been born around January 13, 2017, and weighed 7.6 pounds on 4/14/17. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-04-14-00277Jethro (male)

Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive

Posted 4/14/17, and pictures taken 3/26/17. Jethro, a Chocolate Lab mix possibly with Black Mouth Cur or Boxer, was at the Jacksonville, TX shelter, and tagged by a rescue in Ohio on 8/26/16. I picked him up to foster until transport, but when they saw the video of him when I picked him up, they didn't think he looked Chocolate Lab enough for them to place him in their area. Jethro was with a submissive female for about a month with no problem except he doesn't like to share his food. I tried moving him with a dominant female, and they did not get along. He did not get along with some of my other rescue dogs at first, but I have been able ... (Read More)to let him out of his dog pen a few times for a longer period of time with no problems. Jethro LOVES people and attention, he will try to bury his head and body into a person to get loved on. He is not a digger, and would be better paired with a submissive female dog. I don't know if he is house trained since he has been in a dog pen here, but he is leash trained. Jethro is estimated to have been born in 2012, and weighed 60.8 on 8/25/16. He was heartworm positive in October 2016, but has been on Doxycycline for a month already, and has been on heartworm prevention. (Less)

Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed

Posted 4/14/17, and pictures taken 3/26/17. Gypsy, a Lab mix, was at the Smith County, TX shelter, and tagged by a rescue in Washington on 10/17/16. I picked her up to foster until transport, but transport has never been set, and circumstances changed at that rescue. She needs to find a home, so the shelter agreed that I should find another rescue or home for her. Gypsy loves to play with other dogs, plays with balls and toys, is crate trained, is shy around men, but good around children and women, and has a lot of energy, so probably not good around smaller children that could get pushed over. Gypsy is estimated to have been born ... (Read More)around March 2015, weighed 44.0 pounds on 10/21/16, and 55.10 pounds on 4/20/17. She was heartworm negative on 10/21/16. (Less)

Pit Bull Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Posted 4/14/17, and pictures taken 3/26/17. Colette, a Blue Pit Bull, was at the Smith County, TX shelter, and tagged by a rescue in Washington on 10/17/16. I picked her up to foster until transport, but transport has never been set, and circumstances changed at that rescue. She needs to find a home, so the shelter agreed that I should find another rescue or home for her. Colette LOVES people, she will try to bury her head and body into a person's body to get attention and belly rubs, good with children, loves to play with balls and other toys, and of course loves her treats. She does not get along with other dogs, so she needs to be ... (Read More)the only dog with a secure fence, and may need to be crated if left alone. I have been able to walk her by some of my dogs while on a leash with no problems. She jumps on top of dog houses, so she needs a tall fenced yard with no objects to climb on that will help her jump over. She even managed to get her collar off in her dog pen here, and even plays with that, and has dumped her food out of her dish to play with the dish. Since I can't join her with our other dogs, I don't know if she is house trained. Colette is estimated to have been born in 2014, weighed 53.0 pounds on 10/21/16, weighed 60.8 pounds on 4/20/17, and heartworm negative on 10/21/16. (Less)

Rottweiler Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive

Posted 4/14/17, and pictures taken 3/31/17. Cameron was one of five dogs at the Smith County, TX Shelter on 3/28/17 that needed to leave that day. Another rescue was going to take him, but could not take another heartworm positive dog, so I tagged him, since one of my senior dogs passed away. He has joined my yard dogs, and follows me everywhere. He does not like being in a crate or riding in a vehicle, but I'm working with him on those and he is getting much better. He looks like a teddy bear in the face. He has a slight dominant personality, but is very trainable, since he is eager to please his person. He has barked at our cats, so ... (Read More)I would not recommend him with cats, and he is good with children and adults. Dr. Reeves is helping me with his heartworm treatment that will be a natural slow kill after he finishes Doxycycline and Prednisone for a month, which he started on 4/10/17. I'm holding off on his neuter for a month or two until Dr. Reeves thinks it is safe. Cameron was picked up on Hwy 135 on 1/21/17 weighing 34 pounds, and estimated to be 2 years old. He now weighs 53.6 pounds. Anyone interested in adopting him, please e-mail me at TMSGriffith@aol.com. (Less)

American Staffordshire Terrier Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Posted 4/14/17, and pictures taken 3/31/17. Mercado has some Terrier in him, but not sure what his mix is. Brindle fur is not an indication of any breed, since numerous breeds have Brindle fur. I had to choose American Staffordshire Terrier to post him on this site. Mercado was found injured by a young man, and brought him to Dr. Reeves, but he couldn't take him home. I just had an adoption, so I was able to take him. He had a minor injury to his pelvis that healed very well on its own. He was neutered on 2/2/17, is crate trained, loves to play with the other dogs, good with children and adults, barks at our cats, and does ok on a ... (Read More)leash, but needs some more work. He loves to play with some old toys laying around, like a fox stuffed toy that doesn't have the stuffing or squeaker anymore. He runs around carrying it in his mouth, and gets another dog to play with him. Mercado is estimated to have been born around September 2016, and weighed 45.4 on 4/14/17. (Less)

Shar-Pei Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Posted 4/3/17, and pictures taken 4/1/17. Champ came from Smith County Animal Control on 3/22/17. Champ has joined my yard dogs, likes to play with the other dogs, is good around children and adults, leash trained, and is crated at night. He will go in his crate on his own now. He likes to dance also. He will get into a happy spin in one spot. Champ was picked up on 1/5/17 on CR 1289 weighing 58 pounds, estimated to be 3 years old, and was neutered on 3/27/17. I wasn't sure what breed to list him as, but the more I got to watch him, he reminded me of another dog I had that I listed as a Bone Mouth Shar Pei mix. The shape of his ears ... American Shorthair Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Cats, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Leukemia (FeLV)

Posted 9/22/16, and pictures updated on 3/10/17. Joni was found at a home in Alba, TX that needed help with several dogs and cats. Joni tested positive for Feline Leukemia, and it was suggested to euthanize her, but this does not have to be a death sentence. Cats like Joni can live a long normal life, and may have health issues as they get older. I offered to let her come live in a cat building I have designated for cats with illnesses, and I am putting her up for adoption in case someone finds that they can give her a home. She is very affectionate, and deserves a chance at getting adopted. If your not sure about adopting her, please ... (Read More)do research on Feline Leukemia to make an informed decision. Catahoula Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Posted on 1/17/17, and pictures taken on 12/22/16. Paco came from Smith County Animal Control. He was not reclaimed, and was running out of time. He is a very sweet dog, good with other dogs, doesn't like to share his food too much, ok on a leash when he is not scared, and likes to smile. His front teeth are worn down, so when he smiles, only his canine teeth show, which is very cute, and he wags his tail very fast. He just wants to be pet a lot, and have his belly rubbed. His age is hard to determine with the teeth worn down, so he was guessed at 8 + years in December 2016, and weighed 53.3 pounds on 12/26/16.

Posted on 9/22/16, and pictures taken on 8/10/16. Pete, a Tuxedo cat, wandered up to a home in the Lake Palestine, TX area around the beginning of August 2016, and they already had several cats of their own, so they could not keep him. Pete is very affectionate, likes to be vocal when he wants to be pet, and may try to go outside when he sees a door open. Rescue Me ID: 16-05-29-00423Truffles (female)

Cocker Spaniel Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Posted 9/15/15, and pictures updated 5/4/16. While working on a rescue project, Truffles and her sister Capri were found at a dumpster at Lake Palestine on 9/3/15 in route to our rescue location. Both came running up, are somewhat good on a leash, but need more practice, are very sweet, and love to be pet. They are crate trained, love to play with the other dogs, and they are social with people, so they did have an owner. We had them at an adoption event in September 2015, and they let a lot of children pet them. We were thinking possible Beagle mix for the breed at first until the Cocker Spaniel mix was suggested. There was also the ... (Read More)suggestion of Rottweiler in looking at Capri. Both girls have stub tails and underbites. She was estimated to have been born around April 2015, and weighted 28.2 on 9/11/15; 52.8 on 5/29/16. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-05-25-00488Yapper (female)

Pug Mix    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Posted 5/25/16, and pictures taken 12/10/15. Yapper, a Pug/Chihuahua mix, was one of the 62 dogs that were at the Quitman Sanctuary that I helped at the beginning of 2015 to place 52 of the dogs after the elderly husband had been in and out of the hospital several times, and they needed to get their numbers down. Several rescue groups helped by taking the dogs that they could place, and I took about 8 all together, and still have 3. Yapper was estimated to have been born around April 2005, was spayed on 3/28/07, and last weighed 21 pounds on 1/7/15. I brought her to my location on 1/19/15. It is unknown if she is house trained, but the ... (Read More)other dogs I've adopted out from that location did well at their new homes. Yapper does yap, but not constantly. She has to have something to yap at, and her yap sounds just like the word. She loves her food, and to get attention. I think she is funny to watch, and brings a smile to my face every time. She is still active for her age, and runs around like a young dog. She would make a great companion dog, and still has many years left to give love to a person or family. Estimated to have been born around April 2005, and weghed 21.0 on 1/7/15. (Less)

Lab Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Posted 12/17/14. Cuddles and many more dogs were at a sanctuary in Quitman, TX, that could no longer care for all the dogs. The dogs were in danger of being euthanized. Cuddles was already spayed and rabies vaccinatinated. CUDDLES was found on Hwy 80 starving, and treated for Parvo around 9/4/10. The vet said she was about 12 weeks old when found. There is no description of her breed in her vet records, but our best guess is a Yellow Lab/Terrier mix. She was spayed on 8/9/13 and vaccinated, and weighed 56 pounds on 10/23/14. She is shy of new people, so her new family would have to be patient with her. She has come up to people at our ... Pug Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Needs Vaccinations

Posted 8/23/15, and pictures taken 8/10/15. Beauregard was dumped on our road, and found on 8/5/15 after his 5 pound pregnant Chihuahua mate was found dead on the road from being hit by a vehicle. His eyes bulge out like a Pug, and his tail curls like a Pug, but he also resembles a Chihuahua. He didn't want to come to anyone at first, but has bonded with his foster mom and my son becoming very loving and playful. It will take him about three days to bond with another person, but he loves can food, so it shouldn't take too long. He thinks he is bigger than a large dog, so he should be kept with smaller dogs. He is with two other small ... (Read More)female dogs, and has even been playing with them. He will alert his person when someone is at the door, likes to roll over for belly rubs, loves to be pet, and loves to sleep in bed with his person. He doesn't like his person to leave him, so he should be put in a crate when left alone. He is estimated to have been born in 2013, and he weighed 13.6 on 8/5/15. (Less)

Posted 8/23/15, and pictures taken 8/4/15. The owner died on 6/26/15 in Ben Wheeler, TX. The mother was a Blue Heeler. While we had the dogs at the man's house posted for the family to try to find homes for them, someone let the gate open to the dog pen, letting her mother and three siblings out, and her mother and one sibling were killed by something or someone. Rhea was the third one that was missing, but she was found on 7/17/15, and reunited with her sister Rayna. Lab Mix    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Posted 8/2/15, and pictures taken 8/2/15. Marley was brought to us on 8/1/15, he is neutered, has not had a mess in the crates so far, so might actually do great in a house, is extremely friendly with people and the other dogs, but will go after cats, goats, snakes, and other wild animals. Mark, former owner, said Marley will just rip the head off of a snake, and when Marley went in the creek where they live, water snakes would stay away from him. Mark thought Marley had Pit Bull in him, but when he got here, I could see the resemblance of a Bull Terrier in his face. It's hard to see it in pictures, but you can definitely see it in person. ...
